Holiday Safety Tips

With this being the last weekend before Christmas, you can expect the malls to be extra crowded and parking to be hectic and scarce. The holiday season is a time when busy people can become careless and vulnerable to theft and other holiday crime. A-1 Self Storage cares about your safety and offers the following Holiday Safety Tips from the Los Angeles Police Department Crime Prevention Section that can help you be more careful, prepared and aware while you’re out and about this weekend.

  • Shop during daylight hours whenever possible. If you must shop at night, go with a friend or family member and park in a well-lit area.
  • Be sure to locate your car keys prior to going to your car to avoid fumbling in the dark for them.
  • When approaching or leaving your vehicle, please be aware of all your surroundings.
  • Do not leave packages or valuables on the seat of your car; this creates a temptation for thieves. If you must leave something in the car, lock it in the trunk or put it out of sight.
  • Avoid wearing expensive jewelry or watches.
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
  • Pay for purchases with a check or credit card when possible.
  • Keep cash in your front pocket.
  • Be extra careful if you do carry a wallet or purse. They are the prime targets of criminals in crowded shopping areas, transportation terminals, bus stops, on buses and other rapid transit.
  • Avoid overloading yourself with packages. It is important to have clear visibility and freedom of motion to avoid mishaps.
  • Beware of strangers approaching you for any reason. At this time of year, con-artists may try various methods of distracting you with the intention of taking your money or belongings.
  • Even though you are rushed and thinking about a thousand things, stay alert to your surroundings at all times.

Seasonal Storage Tips

Using self storage during the holiday season can help make things less stressful. Along with the holiday cheer and festivities comes the stress and chaos of shopping, family gatherings and overnight guests. Here are some self storage solutions that can clear up your home to help make the holidays more enjoyable.

  • Santa Storage: Store bicycles, scooters, sporting equipment, electronic items & much more and keep them safely hidden away until “Santa” is ready to put them under the Christmas tree.
  • Guest Room Space: Are you getting ready for house guests, but your spare room is a mess? Consider renting a storage unit to contain that clutter!
  • Guest Furniture & Bedding: Storing items for guest use only like roll-away beds, cots, futons, air mattresses, pillows and blankets will free your home from items that are generally used for special occasions only.
  • Seasonal Clothing: Free up some closet space by storing your summer wear and clothing until they’re ready to be worn again next year. Switch them out with warmer clothing items such as coats, jackets, thermal wear, hats, gloves, etc.
  • Seasonal Items: You might want to consider storing your surfboard, boogie board, golf clubs and other summer gear if you’re not going to use them until next summer rolls around. This will help make room for your winter skis, boots, sleds, shovels, etc.
  • Holiday Decorations: Since you’ll only need them once a year, you might as well store them away where they won’t get damaged.

Seasonal storage is an ideal way to stay organized during the hectic holiday season. A seasonal storage unit is definitely worth considering when you have items that you need but don’t use very often. Please call us today and let the friendly staff at A-1 Self Storage help you determine the best size space to help you save space and money! We also offer a wide selection of boxes and packing supplies for one-stop shopping convenience.

Christmas Countdown

Where has the month of December gone? Can you believe that Christmas Day is in seven days? Are you done with your shopping yet? Have you even started? Just remember that it’s the thought that counts. The greatest gifts cannot be bought, wrapped or placed under a Christmas tree. The gifts of friendship and love are priceless. It can be as simple as spending quality time with someone you hold dear to your heart. With everyone being so busy these days, taking time out of your busy schedule will mean a lot to that person whom you don’t spend nearly enough time with throughout the year. Short on cash this year? How about making a gift by hand or baking cookies and wrapping it in an inexpensive holiday gift bag or box? Knowing that you took the time to make your gift by hand makes it all the more special to the person you’re giving it to.

Don’t forget that it’s not about the gift giving or receiving, please remember what this holiday is truly about. For many it’s celebrating the birth of Jesus, while for others it’s about being with family and loved ones – and for others it’s both. But regardless of the reasons for celebrating, just remember it’s certainly not about commercialism.
