San Diego, CA – December 27, 2012 – A-1 Self Storage, the premier provider of self storage in California, announced today their monetary donation to National Alliance on Mental Illness San Diego. NAMISD began around a kitchen table in 1970 where parents who had an adult child suffering from schizophrenia could find understanding and support. Over the next 30 years, NAMISD morphed into an unique support organization for both those diagnosed with mental illness and their families. Due to NAMI’s bold endeavors, mental illness is no longer considered the fault of the parents. Rather than suffer guilt, parents are given an informative hug of information through NAMISD and hope through its programs. Family to family support is coordinated and peer to peer support is established for the one affected with mental illness. Seeing dramatic improvements in the lives of those they serve, NAMISD has great hopes for further increasing the visibility of their programs and organization to positively impact San Diegans.

A-1 Self Storage is please to discover that the California Self Storage Association has named our CEO Brian Caster the Member of the Month. With Christmas fast approaching and the giving spirit all around, there is no doubt that Brian Caster and the Family deserve such recognition, especially since they are so heavily involved in philanthropic activities.
The CSSA writes: “Caster, his family and the A-1 Self Storage business (for whom he is the CEO) make a point of engaging in philanthropic and humanitarian enterprises. For Caster, that need is basically part of his genes and chromosomes. You see, his father and mother started the non-profit Serving Hands International 30 years ago in an effort to help those in need in nearby Mexico (the program now extends worldwide).”
